A wedding at Pie Ranch

On the city side of the hill there is a large resevoir that has been very low for 2 years while a new tunnel was built to carry water around the dam. It was created in 1952 and submerged two small towns that are now visible.

The first view of the vast area.

When the resevoir is full sculling teams practice here in the early dawn hours.

There is a guard rail visible that traces the edge of a submerged road

I looked up the hill and saw a pile of branches that didn't look natural and decided to take a closer look

the pile of branches from behind
from the front it appears to be a campsite

a seat? a place to chop wood?

inside

In between some runs I have a lot of spare time and I like to shop at the dollar store now and then. I found this little shelf unassembled and packaged for $1.49. I thought it would work in the bathroom. After I unwrapped it and put it together I understood why it was in the dollar store to begin with. It doesn't stand up straight. At all. With any configuration. I left it out for the other housemates to see then I threw it out. And then I remembered: I bought the same thing a few years ago. There is probably an entire Chinese village or highrise full of divisions of men and women (seperated) mass producing these things and shipping them over in huge cargo containers. And they got me twice so far.

When I g-mapped an address in Santa Cruz tonight I found this extra picture in the results. I immediately recognized him as The Great Morgani who not only is a master accordion player but an amazing tailor as well. www.thegreatmorgani.com He is a retired guy who lives downtown and he will show up now and then in an incredible costume and play perfect accordion tunes. Watch him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YS9mC7Ql4o

If you look closely there's a dog riding on the rear view mirror of the truck.

After 3 dry weeks the rains returned and accidents at predictable places on the mountain road.

Now that Alice has her own door she has decided to turn our home into a funeral parlor. She brings her work in and leaves it for me to supervise.

Alice has a warm little house to sleep in and a door in the window so she can come and go as she likes. I bought a new heater so we're ready for winter. And no more racoons and skunks and neighborhood tomcats sneaking in to eat her food.
